Here i was trying to capture Gannets in flight

shot with a Nikon D300s at Bempton Cliffs East Yorkshire.

conditions were excellent with bright sunshine anabeling me to use a fast shutter speed so freezing the image which gave me sharp images

All the photos were taken free hand with panning
At Bempton you are right on the cliff face so making sure you are far enough from the edge before you loose yourslef in your eyepiece or you could be over the edge,a good sense of health and safety is very important at this site and you must respect the rules and obey all the signs and warnings as you could fall a good 2-400ft to the bottom of the cliff which could be fatal,so make sure you read all the signs as they are clearly visable and you must obey them .
You can get really close to all the birds so a standard lense would be ok.

  1. Hi
I have looked at your blog along with all your criteria for both of your units and I am pleased to say that you have achieved a Distinction for both.
You have come onto the course and from not being able to blog or do research ( so you say) you have achieved both.
You are a naturally gifted photographer who's work would not look out of place at a very high level in magazines, etc you should try freelancing for a wildlife magazine or website as I don't think you know how good you actually are.
Well done Mick a great job all round, if you want to come back on another course can you let me know.

    Steve

  2. I love your work and think your bird shots are brilliant. My favourite from the selection above would be the third one up from bottom where a bird sits on the ledge as one comes in to land. I think you must be in mid air to capture such quality and feeling.
