THE BRIMSTONE MOTH IS USUALLY SEEN BETWEEN APRIL AND OCTOBER AND LIVES AMONGST HAWTHORN BUSHES ,IT WINGSPAN WHEN FULLY GROWN IS APPROX 35MM,HAVING FIRSTLY FOUND THE MOTH I THEN TURNED TO MY BOOK ON ALL BRITAINS WILDLIFE,PLANTS AND FLOWERS BY THE READERS DIGEST1987.WHICH WOULD GIVE ME ALL THE INFORMATION I NEEDED TO IDENTIFY THE MOTH AND ITS HABBITAT
I USED MY NIKON D300S WITH A NIKON MACRO LENSE 2.8-105.WHAT I WAS TRYING TO DO WAS GET THE DETAIL OF ITS EYES AND HEAD THAT THE EYE DOES NOT SEE ,SO I PUT THE CAMERA ON A TRIPOD AND USED MY REMOTE SHUTTER RELEASE AND THEN TURNED OF THE VR (VIBRATION REDUCTION )ON THE LENSE AS ON A TRIPOD THERE SHOULD BE NO NEED FOR THE VR TO BE ON.I WAS IN MY GARAGE WITH A SINGLE 100 WATT BULB TURNED ON SO TO GET MORE LIGHT WITHOUT USING A FLASH I SET THE ISO AT 400 AND USED AN APERTURE OF F5.6WITH A SHUTTER SPEED OF 1/2 SEC AT FIRST .
AS I TOOK MORE PHOTOS AND THE MOTH WAS HAPPY TO BE WERE IT WAS (ON A CHRISTMAS CACTI)WHICH I HAD PLACED THE MOTH ON I TRIED DIFFERT APERTURE ANS SHUTTER SPEEDS TO GET THAT PERFECT SHOT BUT WITH THE MOTH SO SMALL IT WERN'T EASY SO THE LAST TWO SHOTS WERE TAKEN WITH AN APERTURE OF F22 WITH A 1/10 SEC AND F14 AT 1/SOO SEC
I like how the background is blurred away from a main subject...well done you...some good photographs as always...
