The Grey Heron, hated by fish pond owners and fishermen but a great bird to photograph as they wait for small fish and frogs motionless in shallow water enabling you to get in position and wait with all the camera settings ready,as they wait if you keep yourself secluded and dont spook the Heron you can try a few shots to check your levels so you can be ready if anything happens.
For these photos i was hidden behind a purpose built screen and set my camera too ISO400 aperture F6.3at 1/400sec at 400m hand held the first shot was as the Heron was cleaning itself and the second shot as it began to stalk its prey.I also liked the reflection of its self in the water.
This third shot was just before it struck and the forth shot was as it struck the water to try and catch its prey,
As you can see by the fifth photo it was not very successful and as it dried of i quite liked the way the plumage looked and the small ripples the drops of water made of its beak
Hi
ReplyDeleteThe heron images are fine in that they appear to be close and under the right light conditions to get those reflections along with the green bank reflections. Can you take a photo of the screen that you have built which allowed you to get this close.

Hi
ReplyDeleteThese images look very high quality, the only thing that could be improved is the 'money shot' of a fish actually in the beak.
Fantastic images though!!
